16 July 2010, 8:46 pm

I have always liked baseball for the most part. As a SPORTS playing Kid in America you can't help but being surrounded by all sorts of Baseball things. Little League as a kid, Going to a A AA AAA or MLB game with the family. As a Kid I played baseball. T-Ball and up till I was like 10. I was a REDS fan then (1970's). Why I don't know? Maybe because my friends liked them. But then you have to choose the sports you are good at and like the most. For me it was FOOTBALL(O-Lineman) BASKETBALL (Forward 6'3") and the LACROSSE(Goalie). Baseball was a distant memory. I knew about baseball. I would watch the world Series. Root against the Yankees. But for the most part I thought Baseball was a "Boring" Sports. Just something to go to to have fun and eat Peanuts and Cracker Jacks. I WAS a huge CELTICS fan. Loved the NBA and LARRY BIRD. Also a HUGE Miami Dolphins FAN. DAN MARINO. After the retirement of BIRD And MARINO I was lost... I moved to San Diego, Ca in 1994. The Padres were a bad team. At Jack Murphy Stadium you get a crowd of around 14,000 a night in a stadium that would hold 65,000. Going to a baseball game was just for fun. Friends and food. The game was a FAR SECOND or 6th. For me anyway. I did not care about the game. In 1996 that all Changed for me. In 1996 the Padres were doing well. They had a pretty good record. won 91 games, lost 71 games, and finished in first position. The Roster had some great players... 1996 San Diego Padres Opening Day Starters Brad Ausmus Ken Caminiti Andujar Cedeno Steve Finley Tony Gwynn Joey Hamilton Rickey Henderson Wally Joyner Jody Reed Trevor Hoffman as the Closer With 3 games to go in the season, the PADRES had to beat the LA DODGERS to win the division and go to the playoffs. I remember watching the games in a San Diego Hotel with my then Visiting Parents. And they DID beat the Dodgers! And that's when it HAPPENED! I fell in love with BASEBALL! I saw that there was more to a game than a ball and a bat. The TEAM, Strategy, Family, Pure. Atmosphere. I became a season ticket holder in 1998 (world series year). I LOVE BASEBALL. It's my Favorite sport to see and watch on TV. OK, OK, yes this is a long winded question. But I wanted to share with you, the baseball community, why and how I fell in love with this great game. So again I ask... When did you fall in Love with Baseball? And Why?... Read More »
